Burp Cloth Tutorial

so i'm going to prove to everyone out there, including my husband, that my hours on pinterest have not been in vain. I'm going to start posting tutorials of projects that i've found on pinterest!

so for my first tutorial (sounds like i'm a magician!!)i'm going to show you how to make these super cute burp cloths...

i found this tutorial here but i did make some modifications, specifically to the size of my fabrics.

materials:

pre-fold cloth diapers - I bought a pack of 5 gerber birdseye diapers, they are the gauzy ones but the cotton ones will also work

1/4 yard pre-washed fabric - really you could use a scrap piece it just needs to be 21 inches long and 6 inches wide at least if your cloth diapers are like mine. if they aren't just measure your cloth and add an inch to the length.

matching thread, iron, scissors, sewing machine etc....

so like i said for my burp cloths, i used a piece of fabric 21" long by 6" wide. 6" was the width of the middle part of my burp cloth and i like the little white edge that this cloth and the dino cloth have. but if you want the fabric to go all the way to the fold than just add an inch to the width.

cut the fabric 21" x 6"

fold the long sides over a 1/2" and iron - sorry there is not a picture for this step, i didn't want you to see my laundry closet! that's right it's a closet, the joys of apartment living!

then center your fabric over the middle part of the cloth and pin just the long sides.

i pinned using a 3/8" seam allowance, the tutorial i followed suggested 1/4" but the pins kept slipping. (i blame my pins, or maybe it's my fat fingers!!)

now this is the hard part....

sew in a straight line!

once you've sewn both of the long sides, serge the short sides. since these cloths are already serged just serge right over.

if you are like me and don't have a serger use a zig zag stitch. once you are done, trim the excess fabric off the ends.

tip: feed the cloth in cloth side up that way you can see where to sew.

trim any loose threads and you are done!

voila!
a beautiful fun diaper cloth!

these make great, easy shower gifts, i made 5 total two dinos, two i love mommy, i love daddy, and one in the paisley!

for those of you sitting here like "i didn't know sallie and kyle were pregnant!"
we aren't!!

kyle's sister, courtney, is and so i've been putting pinterest and my sewing machine to great use! we can't wait to meet that beautiful baby boy!!

**be on the look out for the matching paisley nursing cover!**

Yes, I'm blogging during the Super Bowl

So sue me! Look if the buccaneers aren't playing I'm not really watching!!

Kyle and I had such a great weekend! We celebrated Kyle's brother-in-laws's birthday. I can't figure out what eric and I are?? Is he my brother-in-law-in-law? I think so (if not I don't care because it's kind of fun to say and type) eric watson is my brother-in-law-in-law and sadly he will never see this post most likely, cause we are barely friends on Facebook and he has yet to accept my twitter request to follow him. anyways we celebrated his birthday this weekend in montgomery,al! The guys played golf saturday ( I have a sneaking suspicion that kyle lost and that's why he's not talking about it??) and the girls, me and courtney, went to the flea market but not before I ventured over to strickland's cloth barn in the thriving metropolis of eclectic, al. never heard of it? well stinks for you friend. first of all eclectic is the cutest little town on the lake ***disclaimer from kyle: eclectic is not all on the lake and "they aren't cute, i hate eclectic they were jerks in football**** well according to kyle a lot of people were jerks in high-school football(i'm talking to you tommy trot!!) but i think eclectic is cute and that's all that matters because i'm the blogger. I have been told about strickland's multiple times from friends and family, not so much told as warned. warned about the piles of fabric and the amount of digging you have to do. um helloooooo do you know me I love digging for great deals!! so needless to say i've been dying to go! it was wonderful, scary, teetering piles of fabric!!! and I came away with some great deals!

This great outdoor fabric was $1.98 a yard so I got two and I'm thinking nice pillows for our porch especially during football season, war eagle!

This fabric ended up being $2.98 a yard. I thought it was more expensive than that and only got a yard only to get in my car see my receipt and kick my self in the head for not getting more! But I think I'm going to make a cushion for my new chair using this fabric. "what new chair??" I'm so glad you asked........

THIS NEW CHAIR

I purchased this lovely CRAZY AMAZING bentwood chair at the east brook flea market in montgomery with my lovely CRAZY AMAZING sister-in-law courtney watson!! and it was the deal of the century, get ready to pick your jaws up off the floor because it was...........$12.50 I couldn't believe it, I carried it around the rest of the time at the market because I was so scared that someone else would snatch it up!! I was ecstatic because I really wanted a lightweight chair in the sewing/craft/guest room. I've been using one of my favorite chairs that I found on the side of the road years ago (yea i know it's like a disease) But as much as I love that chair it is far from portable and I've got a couple tables that I move between so it takes like 5 minutes to move the chair. It's more of sitting chair anyways so it will live out it's true purpose in the corner of the guest/sewing/craft room!

yea and then that night we celebrated eric's birthday, I forgot I was supposed to talk about him, but that's what he gets for always forgetting to say hi to me! but seriously he's a great brother-in-law-in-law I'd like to think we keep each other sane, being married to stokes' kids can make you crazy!!!!!

I love getting to go back home to kyle's parent's house. they live out in the country and they've got cows (I mean I grew up, down the street from cows, that's right jones valley farms, represent) but these cows are across the street from kyle's childhood home and let me just tell you my dog wishes he was a cow. yesterday the cows were out close to the street and very chatty, bo being the precious four month old puppy that he is didn't understand that they weren't talking to him. he was barking up a storm and when we crossed the street he just kept barking until we got close enough for him to realize how much bigger they were compared to him. the life of a little dog, I think he may have a napoleon complex!! but it was so cute and sweet to watch, he just sat there watching the cows watch him, my heart melted! I wish I had a picture!!!(insert sad face here)

*dresser update: I'm almost finished so i'll be posting pictures super soon.

It's official I'm the worst blogger ever!!

so i guess the wedding planning got to me and i dropped the ball when it came to the blog. i'd like to apologize to the avid readers (aka kyle). but i promise to be better as i blog our newlywed adventures.

so we got married, turns out that was the easy part!! just kidding, we've been having fun, i mean it's not sunshine and rainbows everyday, kyle snores!! that was something i already knew about him i just had no idea it was this bad!! our apartment is coming along nicely but we still aren't having you over yet! We did decide to have a few of kyle's friends from work over to play with our kinect (best xmas present for sure), and it forced me to make the living room and dining room presentable! kyle said we should have a party in our guest room and master bedroom next, i thought that was weird. but i think he liked how clean everything was, at least that's what i'm hoping!!

after we got his new name tag
he loves his leopard to bits, literally!
our newest addition is our sweet puppy bo!! i know it seems early to be having kids, but we couldn't help it he was born on october 1st, our anniversary, so it was destined!! scott and paula peek graciously let us take him home and he is fitting in pretty well, living up to his namesake for sure, (he's a super fast runner!)He's the best like for instance today he and i were watching last night's episode of real housewives beverly hills and the second taylor armstrong showed up bo's eyes were fixated on the drama, such a good boy! he is also a big fan of any sporting event that causes kyle to jump up and yell at the television, bo really likes that. i could blog for hours on this dog, probably cause it's just him and i all day (some days seem longer than others!)
sweet bo!!

i'm still on the job hunt but i really have been cherishing this time at home to get things done that i've been wanting to do for a long time. i've been doing some freelance work but i'm staying busy making baby things.....that's right kyle and i are going to be an aunt and uncle...haha fooled ya didn't i! kyle's sister is due in may and is expecting a baby boy so needless to say i've been glued to pinterest pinning dozens of baby tutorials!!

ok before i wrap up this post, one thing to make you feel smarter than me! i was in atlanta picking up our good friend cory so he and i could go to lunch ( we date secretly mostly when kyle has to work on the weekends, don't tell!!) as i was headed to his house i saw an amazing dresser on the side of the road!! score right, wrong. it's an awesome dresser but not exactly free anymore, it make have cost me the back glass on my murano!! kyle didn't understand, it was an excellent dresser on the side of the road, and we need another dresser!! anyways i learned my lesson, switch cars with kyle so i can always be in a truck!! i'm painting the dresser now so i'll post pictures when i'm done to show you it was worth it!!

151 days to go...

God is good!
In so many ways!

Kyle and I found an apartment at Century Arbor Place apartments, He is moving out of his place at the end of June and just has to secure our place this week!

I found an internship, so graduation here I come. I'm working for Pineapple House Interiors in Atlanta, Ga. Check them out! My friend Kate and I will be working together all summer long!
Danae, Kate, and I at the Peek party

We also found out that Cade Hornsby, may be attending our wedding, at least that is what his mommy Ally Hornsby is hoping! Her due date got pushed up to the week before our wedding!! But if he is anything like his sister he will be late! So cade please be here on time! Your mommy and daddy would thank you!

I'm excited that I'm almost done with school so I can really focus in on wedding planning.

A few months ago I ordered a custom wedding dress hanger from Lilafrances (Anna Hartshorn) on Etsy! I had totally forgotten about it until a few weeks ago when it showed up on my doorstep!!

My amazing hanger!
Isn't it great! It's all handmade that is why it took so long to get to me!! She is so talented! Its very delicate so she suggests that you only use it for pictures and not for storing a wedding dress. But still it is going to make one amazing wedding dress photo! Her story is pretty cool.
Check her out  http://www.etsy.com/people/lilafrances?ref=ls_profile !!

Also the book that I made out blurb arrived!! yay for that. I compiled our engagement photos in a book. (have I already told ya'll about this?? I can't remember so if I did just keep scrolling down!) Its wonderful, I had to tweak a few pages and I'm planning on ordering them as gifts for two certain mothers! Blurb is great and everyone should use it!
Preview the whole thing here! http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/2086762?ce=blurb_ew&utm_source=widget
The front cover!

I would now like to say a few words to my fiance.
As a punishment for you spilling Coke on my portfolio over the weekend I have now registered us for pink plates! Seriously while you were still at work yesterday, I was at the mall updating our registry at Crate and Barrel! Here's what I picked out!
Oh in addition to the plates I also added pink champagne flutes to the list. Don't believe me?
Here they are... and now I know they don't look pink in the picture. But trust me they are the pinkest of pink! I love you! and now when you drink out of these or eat off of the plates you will always remember to put a
lid on your byron's cup so you
will never spill another drink on something important ever again! Yes that's right folks starting October 1st the stokes family will be a lid and straw family!! haha, never again will another important document be ruined due to an un-lidded cup!

After finishing my senior thesis, I had a lack of things to do and started going stir crazy, so I decided to paint this huge canvas I've had for months. Thinking it would take me through finals or at least the weekend. After I got my new camera I was taking pictures at Kyle's parents house. I took one of his great grandmother's house that turned out really nice. I decided to paint it, again thinking that there was a good amount to the painting. I started late friday afternoon and was done early saturday morning! So now I'm back to going stir crazy, hence this super long post! Here's the painting, I think I'm going to hang it over Kyle and I's bed once I move into the apartment in October!

An amazing giveaway!!

Good Morning friends,
I was stumbling today while taking a break and came across one of my favorite blogs, MaryJanes and Galoshes. Taylor the writer of the blog is very cool, she always has great diy stuff and other fun things.

She's posted a giveaway for a kelly moore camera bag.
Kelly Moore bags are amazing and I want the posey one in orange! Go visit her website and see her bags and watch the videos on them. The are so well designed and she has just thought of everything.

Anyways all I'm saying is that if I don't win the giveaway Kyle is going to have to get me an early birthday present!!

Just click on the title of this post to get to the site!

164 days to go...

So it has been a while since I've posted. School sucks up all my time, but I only have one more week of college ever!! yay!

Not too much has been happening since I last posted. We've been enjoying being engaged. We celebrated Kyle's mom and sister's birthdays and visited Huntsville for the ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) Alabama state conference, and celebrated our 3 year anniversary. We went to the melting pot...mmm delicious.
at the state conference before the melting pot

We have nailed down our guest list and the save the dates have been printed! I'm just trying to catch sometime to get address and mail them out!

This weekend Kyle and I are going to go apartment hunting in Douglasville this weekend! I'm so excited I've been looking at places online all week long. Kyle was going to go by himself, but after the list of criteria I gave him (check the type of flooring, and ceiling heights and kitchen layout...etc) he got really nervous and kind of overwhelmed and told me I had to come. So friday we are going to look at a few apartment complexes and maybe  some houses!

I'll post after this weekend!!

180 days to go...

6 months to go!
I can't believe that in 6 months I will be Mrs. Stokes. I really can't wait. seriously, this long distance thing is the pits.

In wedding planning news, not much has happened except oh wait... I got the flash drive that has our engagement pictures on it from miss chelsea patricia sides and well our save the dates are done! YIPEE!

All that is left to do is print and send them out to the lucky folks

this had to go on something since it isn't going on the save the date
Don't get me started on this picture
I love it. It worked amazingly well on our save the date. But the front of our save the date has this picture on it
Because I hate how on postcard save the dates the side with the address gets neglected. So anyways I sent Kyle a proof and his inner groomzilla (the companion of bridezilla) came out. "I don't think we should have two goofy pictures." "We should have a serious one on the side that faces people when its on the fridge" My response was since when are we serious people. Whatever, and its actually my fault because in the sign picture I am the only one making a goofy face... yea like that's a normal smile Kyle

Long story short we aren't using the sign picture... I'm not bitter... well maybe just a little ( and since they haven't been printed yet maybe I will change them last minute without his approval, I'm devious like that)

Kyle and I spent much of last week getting our guest list together. It was not easy. We know waaaay too many people. But we got it down and now we are just waiting on the lists from our families.

So in my spare time (which if you know me is not very much!) I created a photo book on blurb of all our engagement pictures. I'm going to toot my own horn here for a second; IT LOOKS AMMMMAZZZING
haha but seriously I think it turned out pretty great and it was fun and easy.

I also ordered part of my bridesmaids gifts this week. Kyle responded to that with "we have to give them gifts." He's lucky he is so cute! When I said what do you think you will get your groomsmen? He responded with "I don't know I have six months to figure it out." Men

That's it for now... more to come
